FRANKIE MANNING MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Sving du Nord is providing the second annual Frankie Manning Memorial Scholarship.

This is an essay contest for high school and college students. Students will write what swing means to them and why they would benefit from attending Sving du Nord. The winner of the essay contest will win a full scholarship to Sving du Nord.

After the passing of Lindy Hop's Ambassador, Frankie Manning, TC Swing wanted a way to commemorate the gift Frankie gave to us and the world by giving that gift to someone who otherwise could not afford to go.

TC Swing must receive your essay by Friday, September 16th, and the winner will be notified by Friday, September 23rd. Essays (electronic media preferred) may be submitted by any one of these methods:

	Ben & Sheri Since meeting in 1999, Ben and Sheri have instructed, judged, competed, and danced around the world. Ben and Sheri are especially known for their innovative and musical dancing and choreography. Though Ben and Sheri have won numerous competition awards, they are most proud of their 2005 National Jitterbug Championship "Golden Budgie" Award, given out annually to the person or people best exhibiting the true spirit of Jitterbug. It is with this spirit Ben and Sheri joyfully bring their brand of energy and positive attitude to the entire swing dance community including their weekly classes and workshops, their monthly swing dance, and their dance team The One2Swing Jitterbugs. 	Dave & Carol Dave Graybill started competing at Swing Dancing in 1998, and has since earned the titles of U.S. Open Swing Dance Champion, American Lindy Hop Champion, Ultimate Lindy Hop Showdown Champion, Georgia State Open Champion, Virginia State Open Champion, New Year’s Eve Dance Extravaganza & Swingin’ New England Dance Champion and was the first ever to receive the Lindy Hop Ambassador prize from the Lincoln Center for Performing Arts, honoring the memory of the great Frankie Manning. He currently lives in New York City, working as a student for the Master’s Program at New York University’s Steinhardt School for Theatre Education and teaching private, group and club lessons for Dance Manhattan. Carol Fraser has extensive dance training in ballet, tap, jazz, ballroom, and all forms of swing dancing. She has taught and competed all over the world and holds numerous titles including US Open Swing Dance Champion, American Lindy Hop Champion, and North American Dance Champion. Carol focuses on teaching body mechanics, body motion and movement, connection, partnership skills and overall dance technique. Her focus in these areas draw novices and professionals alike to seek her guidance and coaching. She has choreographed award winning partner and team routines throughout the United States and was commissioned for the World War II Memorial dedication in Washington DC to assemble a lindy hop routine for the President and attendees. Carol regularly teaches at Dance Manhattan as well as teaching and judging at competitions and workshops throughout the US.

Saturday DJ: Terry Gardner!

Terry Gardner is a Swing DJ, dancer, instructor, and promoter. He has worked for Artspectrum at the American Lindy Hop Championships as both the stage manager and as the event emcee. Terry also competed at ALHC in the Open Showcase division where he placed 5th in 2004 (Video).

Terry is the house DJ for Late Night Swing in Minneapolis and has DJ'ed for AB Swing Challenge [Iowa], American Open [Florida], Dayton Lindy Exchange [Ohio] as well as weddings, public dances and private parties.

Cancellation Policy: 100% refund by 9/1; 75% by 9/8; 50% 9/15; 25% 9/22; no refund after 9/22.

Lead/Follow parity will be maintained as much as possible in all classes. Signing up early is the best insurance that you will get in the classes you want. Some classes will waive the parity when applicable.
