Zoot Suit Boogie Swingin
on the Moon
1999 Zoot Suit Boogie
SQ Issue: Spring 2000 - Volume 10, Issue 2
Robert Allen, Jr. guitar, vocals; Rick Holmes bass, vocals; Jason Cizinsky
drums, vocals.
Rockabilly fans get ready for a solid sound from Brew
Town! Zoot Suit Boogie is a mainstay at Cream City hangouts like the Milwaukee Ale
House.
Their debut CD is a little short on content but heavy on
energy and driving rhythms. Get ready for a workout on the dance floor with most of
these songs clocking in over 200 beats per minute.
This fun disc includes songs called Zoot Suit Boogie
and The Hucklebuck. Both high speed songs typical to the rockabilly
tradition. The latter is a great instrumental in which Robert Allens guitar
works the rhythms with precision and the strong bass of Rick Holmes keep your toes
tappin throughout the song.
Better dance oriented songs include Strollin with
Bone and Midnight Cannonball. They clock in at 188 and 122
respectively.
If you like rockabilly, this one may be worth searching
out. However, with only eight songs and a sticker price of $12, you may want to pass
on this and look for something in the same genre with more value. If your heart is
set on getting it, you may need to make the trek to Milwaukee to find them. I was
unable to locate an easy way to purchase it.
(update: the band has created a website since this review was published)
