The Boilermaker Jazz Band You
Do Something to Me
2006 Paul Cosentino
The Band:
The Boilermaker Jazz Band is an
ecstatically fun band performing authentic hot jazz, ragtime, and swing. From concert
halls to dances, festivals to family parties, listeners and dancers agree - with their
infectious beat and enthusiasm this band can make any crowd move! --- Boilermaker Jazz Band website.
This is a really fun, swingin CD
from the Pittsburg band. They specialize in
earlier jazz music and have picked some gems for this recording. Tempos range from 58 beats per minute to 241 bpm. Its a great dancers CD, whether you
Lindy, Bal, Shag or all of the above!
The musicianship is top shelf all the
way from Paul Cosentinos clarinet to Jennie Luvvs vocals to the announcer,
Mark Kotishion. Yes, an announcer. The CD gives you a flavor of an old radio show,
including sponsorship from Duquesne Pilsener.
Its a cute touch to an already impressive set list.
Speaking of, youre gonna find a
few songs youve heard of (or should have!) like East of the Sun and Lets
Misbehave. However, the band has done
some research to pull out gems from the 30s that you may not have been familiar with. Nuggets like Ive Got to be a Rug Cutter,
You Do Something to Me, and All Gods Chillun Got Rhythm, a Lindy
favorite that originally featured Whiteys Lindy Hoppers from the Marx Brothers
movie, A Day at the Races. There is
also a nice ballad, The One I Love Belongs to Someone Else as well a some Latin, Brazil. So, a smidge of other rhythms just to change it up
a bit.
A must for any dancers
collection, this CD captures a bygone era almost forgotten about. And it swings like nobodys business! Pick it up today for your collection. You arent going to be disappointed.
