KLBB Radio has
been among the few radio voices in the wilderness who have staked their reputation on
jazz. KLBB goes even further in playing lots
of swing music. Theyve had some format
changes in the recent past and tend at certain times of the day to play more contemporary
music than our favorite swingin jazz. Theyve
compiled a pretty darn good bunch of songs from Minnesota artists which gives you a great
flavor of the live music scene in the Twin Cities.
This CD will
only be mildly interesting to the dancer in you. I
count 7 of the 17 songs to be good for swing dancing.
The tempos of these songs range from 113 to 313. My favorites on the CD are Them There Eyes
featuring Jeanne Arland Peterson and Patty Peterson and You Fascinate Me So
featuring Maud Hixson. Other danceable tunes
include Its a Good Day by Connie Evingson (a brisk 313 bal number) and The
Best is Yet to Come by Cookie Coleman.
If you are a
collector of local music, youll find a few recognizable tunes from Charmin Michelle,
Vic Volare and Nichola Miller that were previously released on their own CDs.
I think if you
are a jazz fan, youll particularly enjoy this CD.
I enjoy it as a listening CD very much.
The musicians in the Twin Cities are fantastic and this CD really captures
the flavor of what Minnesota jazz musicians can offer.
Itll definitely get you to want to come out and see them live! Whether its swingin jazz, standards or
latin music, youll find some great gems on this compilation.
One problem
youll have is finding this CD. I
checked KLBBs website and they dont even mention it. And this CD just came out a couple months ago! Im guessing you can find it at local shops
like Electric Fetus. If you arent from
this area, try going to their website and contact them about it.
Bottom Line: To buy or not to buy .. BUY - A great addition to your music listening library! You may need to hunt for this one but start at www.klbbradio.com.
